WARNING: this isn't your typical quickie review. I'm trying to provide a fair and balanced (please don't sue me Fox News) review of this product, which means you are going to have to put up with some long winded explanations. I truly hope you find this review useful though!
To be frank, at first I thought this product was going to complete crap. Let’s face it, the industry wants everyone to believe that methylating or adding an ethyl ester attachment makes any compound the next best thing to Trenbolone! Obviously, this is dependant on the chemical in question and modifying the chemical structure to increase bioavailability and/or potency would require extensive (read, expensive) in vivo testing which most of the supp companies probably don’t do. But VPX claimed to invest in extensive R&D and for whatever reason, I decided to put my trust in them and give Meltdown a shot.
Formula Review Okay, a few token ingredients/amounts aside, I liked the formula, if for no other reason than I had alpha yohimbine along with other analog for a total of 9 mg per 3 capsules. I’m unsure if this is 9mg elemental weight or not though. If it is, then 9 mgs per dose is excellent and since I take 6 a day, I’m getting an efficacious shot of yohimbine. I also liked that they had different isomers of phenylethylamine which may be more bioavailable than “regular” phenylethylamine considering the ubiquitous mao enzyme. They claim the methyating hordenine increases it bioavailability and resultant maoi activity, thus making the phenylethylamine more bioavailable. While we will have to take there word on that for now, I will say that it appears based on the cognitive effects that they have sufficiently engineered effective delivery of these compounds into the CNS (see below) as the psychological changes I have experienced have been different than with plain yohimbine (which is also psychoactive). Obviously we can not rule out a synergistic or stand alone effect from one or more of the other compounds in the formula. The only other compound worth mentioning (imho) would be the methyl synephrine, which they claim can selectively bind to beta-3’s. Well I’m not an expert at all on the adrenergic system, but I’ve read many places that human beta-3 agonism is of dubious benefit for supporting fat loss. I’m also wondering if it’s counter productive to have a non selective alpha agonist paired with a alpha 2 antagonist (yohimbine). Again, I’m uneducated in this area and am only inquiring.
Results Okay, enough posturing, here is my experience with the product. Well my fat loss was rapid and I lost a significant amount of fat from my love handles (3 inches in 2 weeks!). My weight went down considerably, but I went straight to a cut phase and rapid weight loss was expected. Regrettably, I can not say with any certainty if my body comp changes are from this product or not, as I was dieting and exercising ridiculously hard. I also have never been this lean before, so I have no previous experience to reference my qualitative or quantitative changes to. I can however, objectively state the physiological effects of this product. Okay, as far as appetite suppression, I’d give this a solid 7. Not as good as 25 mg of ephedrine but it is significantly less transient as well. It’s a different type of hunger suppression as well. It’s kind of hard to explain. With ephedrine, it was almost like my brain was hungry but my stomach wasn’t, where as with Meltdown, it was the opposite. My stomach was moderately hungry, but my brain was motivated to not eat. In fact, my motivation in general was considerably improved with this product. It’s no where near on par with Adderall or any amphetamines, but it was significant and very noticeable. I wouldn’t say I was more focused, I was more motivated. I shit you not, I actually looked forward to blasting out cardio while I was on this! Within that vein, I also felt a significant mood improvement, although the high doses of yohimbine (again 18 mg with 6 capsules) tended to make me a mildly anxious at times, but it was manageable. But a definite mood boost was evident. As far as sides goes this product was very mild in that regard. Aside from the mild anxiety, the CNS stimulant properties were quite low. I ‘m a terrible sleeper though, and if I took 3 caps (the maximum most people recommend in a serving) within 6 hours of bed there was no way I was getting any Z’s that night. But again, I’m hyper sensitive to the insomnia effect of stims. Again, while the stimulation of this product at high doses is mild, you can definitely “feel it”, and from previous experiences it feels similar to straight yohimbine. So while you may not get tachycardia like you would from ephedrine, you do get that quasi-wired feeling from the yohimbine, although it is much milder than an equivalent amount of pure yohimbine HCL and definitely more mild than standardized yohimbe bark extract. Well that’s my bloated review. I’m going to continue taking the product and I will provide another review once i have completed another cycle. In the mean time, if you want an objective measure of my progress while I’m on Meltdown, you can check out my bodyspace. My screen name is ForTheCure. -Chris
