This is in response to Squat475's question on whether to stack NO-Explode with either CytoGainer or Muscle Milk.
It all depends on what you are going to be using the protein supplement for and when you are going to be taking it.
In short, after a hard workout your body needs a relatively large amount of carbs and protein to replenish glycogen supplies and begin protein synthesis, respecively The less time that passes after a workout and the more quickly these nutrients are digested, the better. CytoGainer is made up primarily of whey for its source of protein and maltodextrin for its source of carbs. These both are digested very quickly and are ideal for a post-workout shake, especially with the large amounts of each that this product includes (a weight-gainer).
On the other hand, although Muscle Milk does include some whey protein and some carbs, it contains a large amount of slower digesting proteins and fats that will slow the digestion of the protein even further. Also the carbs it has in it are kept to a minimum. Personally I use this product right before bed, as much of the protein in it, Casein, will digest over roughly a seven to eight hour period. This will keep your body burning this source of protein as a source of energy all night long and help prevent your body in turning to a catabolic state, or state of muscle breakdown.
So, both products will help you add muscle, however have much different ideal uses. If you are going to choose between the two, I would use CytoGainer after your workouts and then for a pre-bedtime meal, I would try nonfat cottage cheese. It contains much of the same protein as Muscle Milk and is a nice inexpensive alternative.
Hope this helps.
